April 2008

1. Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews.

Urban fantasy novel written by an awesome husband wife author team. It is a heroine-centered novel, which I love. The heroine is Kate Daniels and she is witty, kickass, magically powerful, and strongly independent-which is both admirable and a bit sad at the same time. I think she is lonely... but I do see her starting to develop emotional ties with several of the secondary characters, so that's good. Magic Bites is the first book in the Kate Daniels series, and we are introduced to a fairly complex world as Kate is on a dangerous mission to find her guardian's killer. The novel is fast paced, with a lot of well written, yet gory fight scenes. Not much romance at all... but I'm hopeful Kate will experience some personal intimacy soon. And not just sex, but a loving relationship, too. I'm heading out to the store to pick up Magic Burns tonight!

2. Magic Burns by Ilona Andrews.

Fantastic second installment of the Kate Daniels series. Lots of action, intricate plot, awesome secondary characters... really fantastic story. I loved it! Kate has developed deeper emotional ties to some "friends", which was really wonderful to read. Still not much romance. Which is okay... it is urban fantasy, not romance. But since it is a heroine centered series, and I think it appeals to many women... Ilona and Gordon need to give us what we want and need... ROMANCE AND SEX! lol I know its building up..... hopefully in the next book. Which doesn't come out till 2009! ARRRRGH!!!!

3. Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr. (YA)

Wicked Lovely is a young adult novel, but don't let that deter you from reading it. What Stephenie Meyers' Twilight has done for the teen vampire romance, Marr's Wicked Lovely does for urban fantasy romance... and more! The world is imaginative and the tone of the book is dark and edgy, yet also full of spirit, emotion and hope.

4. Dream Chaser by Sherrilyn Kenyon

Promising comeback after having been disappointed with Kenyon's 2007 book releases,
The Dream Hunter (Jan) and Once Upon a Midnight Clear (Nov). Of those 2007 releases, The Devil May Cry was decent, but I was still a bit disenchanted by the Dark Hunter world. I'm happy to say that Dream Chaser has rekindled my affection for this series. I'm ready for Ash's book! =)

5. What Happens in Vegas Anthology by Jody Lynn Copeland,
Anya Bast, Laruen Dane, and Kit Tunstall.

A collection of true erotic romance stories. Steamy sex meets sweet romance in the perfect way. Great anthology. You can read my complete review at my The happily ever after . . . blog right HERE!

Two books I started reading, but did not yet finish. I WILL be going back to them... I just needed to put them down to read the What Happens In Vegas book review for the authors. Where did the month go?!? I only finished reading FIVE books! :(

The Beast Within by Lisa Renee Jones

Ink Exchange by Melissa Marr. (YA) Sequel to Wicked Lovely
